Photo Friday {Back to School}

In today’s edition of Photo Friday, we’re talking back to school, girls night, my new favorite décor piece and a cookbook hack. Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links. I may receive a small commission of sales which helps keep my site running.

It was back to school for us this week. Since schools starts at the same time for both the kids (at opposite sides of town), we have to split up school drop off duties. This normally wouldn’t bother me since I get the kids ready and spend the morning with them but I was pretty sad not being able to drop off Noah on the first day of school. We all had a nice breakfast together and I gave him a good pep talk and lovin’ before he headed out the door with Joel.

I took Miss Thing across town to preschool where she ran right it, made herself at home and didn’t notice that I left. I was basically begging her for some recognition that I was leaving but nope, nada, nothing. I’m so glad that she was comfortable (she already knows 2 of the 3 teachers), independent and confident but still a little sad. When I picked her up a few hours later she ran to my arms and gave me the best hug.
First Day of School
Noah loved learning all the 1st grade rules, seeing his friends, getting his table assignment at lunch and of course playing at recess. He’s had math homework every night but he’s cruising through it like a champ. I’m so excited to see what he learns and how he progresses throughout 1st grade. He seems to like his teacher so far and his best friend sits at his table in class. A great start to the school year so far.

On Tuesday I got together with some of my favorite moms and friends to see Bad Moms. I failed at getting a picture of us but we had a total blast. I haven’t laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. Being a mom is hard work so it was nice to get together and laugh and commiserate and remember that everyone’s going through something. If you haven’t had a girls night in awhile, it’s definitely worth grabbing your girlfriends and seeing.

I am obsessed with my new Letterfolk sign. I used it for the kids first day of school which turned out really cute. I change the quote or phrase every few days to reflect how I feel or for a good laugh. This week was Julia Child’s birthday so I displayed one of her hilarious quotes.

So I don’t know how many times I’ve bought a cookbook on Amazon thinking I’ll love it only to like 2 of the recipes in the whole thing. It’s super frustrating so lately I’ve been borrowing cookbooks from library and looking through them to decide if it’s something I need on my shelves at home or if it can just go back to the library. I picked up these lovelies a few days ago since I’ve had them on my wish list for quite some time. I’m about halfway through The Best Mexican Recipes and I’m pretty sure I’ll need to purchase it since I’ve sticky-noted almost every page….

There you have it. That’s what’s been going on around here this week. Have a great weekend!
