This week’s Photo Friday is featuring our 4th of July celebration as well as some favorite recipes from the week.
We went to the College Home Run Derby on Saturday night in Omaha which is followed by a huge firework display. We’ve done it every year since we moved to Nebraska and it’s one of my favorite things. I could kind of care less about the baseball part, although it’s way more fun now that it’s a home run derby (it used to be a game beforehand). I’m there for the fireworks. We get to go out on the outfield and lay out blankets to watch the show. Both kids love fireworks so we can keep them.
On the 4th we went over to a family friends house to share a meal and blow up more fireworks. Noah loved smoke bombs and the ferris wheel firework we searched for all over town. It’s been his favorite for years and it took us 4 stops to find it.
Hannah preferred going in and out of the house about a billion times. She like a good fireworks display but the at home stuff doesn’t keep her attention.
Now that July is upon us, it’s officially birthday month. We have lots of family birthdays this month which means lots of cake and celebrating!
My birthday is in mid-July and I’m trying to decide what kind of dessert I want. My favorite dessert is cheesecake so I’m debating between this grated cheesecake and this birthday cake oreo cheesecake. I’ve never had either of them but it doesn’t look like I can go wrong.
Noah’s birthday is the day after mine and he has requested chocolate on chocolate on chocolate, like every year. I’m going to use this chocolate cake recipe that starts with a cake mix. It will of course be frosted with chocolate frosting then I’m going to cover the sides in chocolate chips and the top will be piled with all his favorite candy. If it turns out well, I’ll share it sometime in August. This cake will be for his party next weekend and I’ll make something different (and simpler) for his actual birthday.
Do you have any plans for the weekend? I’m visiting the farmer’s market with a friend tomorrow morning and attending a Wildtree party on Sunday. Have you ever been to one before? This is a first for me. Have a great weekend friends.
