Peppermint Mocha season is the best season, right? Well, salted caramel mocha season is pretty dang good too.

But when I’m drinking a peppermint mocha I feel all the holiday cheer and everything is right in the world.

The price tag at the coffee shop can rack up pretty quickly though if you are as addicted as I am so I decided to try my hand at an at home version to satisfy my craving.

After many trial runs, I found the perfect ratio of coffee to peppermint to chocolate. You taste all the ingredients but the end of the sip is so perfectly pepperminty.

Ingredients for Peppermint Mocha

  • Hot coffee: Brew up a cup of your favorite coffee.
  • Candy canes: We’re crushing them to dust and adding them to the hot coffee to melt and give that perfect peppermint flavor throughout your drink. If you have mini candy canes, hang one on the rim of your mug to make it extra festive.
  • Hot cocoa mix: This is where the chocolate flavor comes in.
  • Peppermint mocha creamer: Adds creaminess to the coffee and an extra touch of flavor.
  • Whipped cream: The stuff in the can is best for topping coffee. Quick, easy and delicious.

How to Make a Peppermint Mocha at Home

First crush some candy canes and put them in the bottom of your favorite holiday mug. I crushed mine very finely so that they would melt easily into the hot coffee.

You can do this in a food processor (the easiest way) or place them in a ziplock bag and crush with something heavy like a rolling pin or meat mallet.

Add hot cocoa mix to the mug next. Now pour your hot coffee into your mug and stir until the crushed candy canes have dissolved.

Add a dash of peppermint mocha creamer for that creamy factor and top with whipped cream and more crushed candy canes.

If you want to get extra festive, hang a mini candy cane over the rim of the mug. Or add a fun peppermint stick.
