‘Tis the season to drink all the peppermint mochas. But that doesn’t bode so well on the wallet so instead of hitting Starbucks, make your own Peppermint Mocha at home with just a few ingredients. And you don’t have to change out of your pajamas.
Peppermint Mocha season is the best season, right? Well, salted caramel mocha season is pretty dang good too. But when I’m drinking a peppermint mocha I feel all the holiday cheer and everything is right in the world.
The price tag at the coffee shop can rack up pretty quickly though if you are as addicted as I am so I decided to try my hand at an at home version to satisfy my craving. After many trial runs, I found the perfect ratio of coffee to peppermint to chocolate.
Oh and whipped cream. I always skip that when I’m getting coffee out but man is it good. It’s kind of too good. *Me slowly stepping away from the canned whipped cream.*
You only need a few simple ingredients for this Peppermint Mocha starting with coffee and crushed peppermint candy canes. I bought a giant box of mini candy canes so that I was stocked up and because they are a good bribe for a child you are trying to potty train. Just saying, a 3 year old will do pretty much anything for a candy cane. Do I condone bribing? Yes, yes I do.
If you already have regular size candy canes or can’t find mini ones, no worries as I have also included the measurements in the ingredient list.
First crush some candy canes and put them in the bottom of your mug then pour over the hot coffee. I crushed mine very finely so that they would melt easily into the hot coffee. Then stir in some chocolate milk powder or hot chocolate mix (I’ve tried both and they are equally tasty so use what you have) and peppermint mocha creamer.
Then top that baby off with some whipped cream and more crushed candy canes to make it look fancy. You’ll almost be able to trick yourself into thinking you got it from the coffee shop. Pick up some of these and you’ll totally be convinced.
So stock up on your candy canes and peppermint mocha creamer this week so you can continue to enjoy Peppermint Mochas even after the holiday season has passed.
- 3 mini candy canes, crushed (or 1 1/2 Tbsp.)
- 1 1/4 cups hot coffee
- 2 Tbsp. chocolate milk powder or hot chocolate mix
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. peppermint mocha creamer
- Whipped cream, optional
Pour 2 crushed candy canes (or 1 tablespoon) into the bottom of your coffee mug. Pour the hot coffee over the candy canes and stir until dissolved. Stir in the chocolate milk powder and peppermint mocha creamer. Top with whipped cream and remaining crushed candy canes.
