Be gone boring, flavorless vegetables. This Honey Sesame Baked Cauliflower is the new favorite in town. Cauliflower tossed in soy sauce, honey, sesame oil and more then roasted in the oven to golden brown perfection. It will be your new go to side dish.
I’ve gotten myself into a major side dish rut. We always have some kind of vegetable with our meal and it’s gotten to the point of one of those frozen veggies that steams in the bag in the microwave or tossing something in olive oil, salt and pepper and throwing it in the oven.
While both options are easy and tasty and most definitely better than no vegetable at all, they can get a little boring after awhile. Especially when there are certain someone’s who shall remain nameless that don’t like vegetables.
So it was time to mix things up and get some flavor on those veggies in hopes that there would be less complaining and more chewing. Roasting vegetables is usually the best way to get the nameless one to eat them and my absolute favorite vegetable to roast is cauliflower. It changes the flavor so much and the caramelization that happens is kind of magical.
I’m sure you have all seen the buffalo cauliflower that has blown up all over the internet as a healthy alternative to wings, right? I’m not falling for it, it’s so not the same thing but I like the idea of replacing something you love with an option that’s healthier and still gives you that little taste of what you are missing.
It got me thinking of other flavor combinations and profiles that would be delicious on roasted veggies and that would curb an unhealthy craving.
Asian food is always a winner in that category for me. I mean, general tso’s and sesame chicken for life. But all that fried goodness is not good for the bod so I took ingredients from my favorite American Chinese dishes and turned it into this healthy Honey Sesame Baked Cauliflower to help ease the sadness.
I’m not even mad about this one though because this cauliflower is bomb. Soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, sesame seed and Sriracha all combine and roast up to caramelized perfection. It’s packed full of flavor and it doesn’t taste like health food.
